Lorraine was born July 16, 1928 in Scottsbluff to Jacob and Elizabeth (Rein) Pester. She started school at North Highland and continued at Lake Alice from the 4th through 10th grades. She graduated from Scottsbluff High School in May of 1946. She was a successful executive administrative assistant at Scottsbluff National Bank, until her marriage to John Abel, Jr. on Feb 13, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was a very busy farm-wife, as John farmed in Mitchell three years until they moved to their farm south of Gering where they continued to live, work and raise a family spanning nearly 40 years. They retired and moved to Scottsbluff.
Lorraine has been a member of Salem Congregational Church since her marriage where she faithfully taught Sunday school for many years. She later joined Salem Friendly Circle and was very active until illness prevented her from taking part in many of the activities. She also served on the alter committee for several years. Other hobbies included both flower and vegetable gardening, and following all Husker sports teams. She was an avid lover of cats and kittens and they provided her joy and comfort.
Lorraine is survived by her husband John; son Dr. James (Sandra) Abel of Elkhorn, NE; daughter Elizabeth Abel-Beacom (Mike) of Frisco, TX; grandchildren Caleb and Amelia Abel of Elkhorn, NE; sisters Dorothy (Lon) Nichols of Scottsbluff; brother Alex Pester of Minatare, NE; sisters in law Fran Abel and Lenore (Bill) Henderson; brother in law Harold (Pat) Abel; and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents, brothers Edward (Marge) Pester, Jake (Pauline) Pester, Henry (Ella) Pester, and sister Mollie (Fletch) Cottrell all preceded her in death.
Lorraine will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, as well as having a strong belief in Jesus Christ our Lord. Rest in peace and love you always, Mom!
